The Frontiers of Openness lab (previously known as the Creative Commons Japan lab) will be the space to debate and discuss the Commons in relation to Japan, and where planning will take place on how to spread ideas about Free Culture and the Commons.
The 'Introduction to the Commons' addresses will be a major feature of this lab, filling the first two sessions of the morning on day one and two of the event. During this time thought-leaders of the Commons such as Larry Lessig, Joi Ito, Ronaldo Lemos, Jay Yoon and Mike Linksvayer will give inspirational introductory talks on the Open Content movement and the position of the Commons.
Session 2 of the Frontiers of Openness lab will see Dominick Chen lead a discussion around the present and future of technologies for participatory culture.
In the "Education Model: Expansion and Reform" session, participants will hear talks about ideas and projects where CC-licenses, amongst other tools, have been used for new practices and discoveries in the education field, and a discussion will follow on which directions are looking promising for the future of education in Japan.
In the "Open Content Businesses" session, participants will be introduced to advanced enterprises in this field, and will be given the chance to examine free licenses for businesses, and different advantages and risks to local businesses, amongst other elements.
The Frontiers for Openness in Japan lab will conclude with a fun and interactive session using the innovative C-shirt software, where participants will be able to experience remixing in action by creating their very own t-shirt from the event.
