Heather Ford, iCommons' Executive Director announced that the dedicated iSummit website would play a central role in supporting the planning and coordination that the event requires on a global scale. The iSummit is an annual exploration of the emerging opportunities for co-ownership, co-creation and the widespread distribution and sharing of knowledge, ideas and creativity in the digital age.
iCommons' primary goal for the iSummit is to provide spaces for people to learn about and experiment with new ways in which digital technology projects and processes can be governed in order to support active creation and innovation.
Participants are actively involved in the planning of the iSummit programme and event activities through the dedicated web platform.
The website has been designed by Loftwork, a leading creative agency in Japan with over 10,000 registered creators. The new site facilitates programme submissions, participant registration, blogging feedback and communication with the event organisers.
Participants are also encouraged to get involved in the build up to the event by signing up to the lab mailing lists, which will be used to develop specific goals for the overarching lab tracks or volunteering to translate content from English to Japanese.
Curators, builders and others willing to help with coordinating speakers and topics for the iSummit in Second Life are also encouraged to sign up online. Visitors to the site can even download Friends of the iSummit buttons and banners to display in their own online spaces to show their support for iSummit '08.
Netprice and TRI-B have also committed to supporting this landmark event dedicated to global digital culture that will be held in Sapporo, Japan - 29 July to 1 August, 2008.
The iSummit '08 is presented by iCommons in association with Digital Garage, Creative Commons Japan and the City of Sapporo.
